Snarky Mewtwo is best Mewtwo XD

You know, there's something I always wondered about Wes' design: Orre is mostly desert, so how does he keep from getting overheated in that blue longcoat, scarf (though I assume that's mostly for the speeder bike), and full-body suit? (Also, why does the goggle tan line only cross his nose?)

I think that line is a strip of white make-up or something like it, presumably something to do with keeping sun glare off the eyes--though I'm sure it ought to be black in that case ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As someone who's used the stuff before, I think it might be zinc sunblock (ex. Zinka) – it scatters/reflects/absorbs ultraviolet light. If it were black, it would be absorbing all the light and quickly getting uncomfortably hot.

(It also comes in a variety of neon colors, but I doubt Wes would be wearing one of those.)

Sorry, that's not possible. Nintendo generally ignores fanworks (and probably doesn't know or care that VF exists right now) but the moment money and physical items become involved, it becomes a merchandise thing and they would have to step in and shut us down to protect their IP.

Ah. I understand. That's too bad. Anyway, love the comic. Keep up the awesome work. I am loving every second of it.

Smooth bounceback, Wes. Glad to see you can handle diplomacy.

And I kind of like him being an Aussie. Orre does seem like it could be an Australian region.

I love Wes' character. I also love Mewtwo's character. Heck with it. I love all of the characters you've put in this series. You've done SO well with this. It just keeps me coming back.

Some sort of reflective visor thing. He lowers it to protect his eyes when he's using the hovercycle.

I absolutely love your portrayal of Wes, and I love the accent you gave him. When I noticed this was a Pokemon Colosseum/XD inspired comic (The mention of Lovrina, XD002, and XD003), I was eager to see if you would include Wes and/or Michael.

Also, I'm glad you're bringing attention to Colosseum and XD because I feel those games are really under appreciated. Sure they don't follow the Pokemon formula (8 badges and Elite 4), and they do have their flaws. But they're still great Pokemon games and it's a shame they never continued the series, because XD left us open for a third installment. But sadly, that never happened.

Besides the Colosseum Series being discontinued, it's all a factor of either:

-Game Developers and market analysts seeing this series being not sustainable in the long term.

-The dark themes they introduced may proved to be too much for not just Gamefreak, but the other game designing company as well, even if the darker themes of today's pokemon games are just as violent and merciless as this one.

-General crowd's lost of interest.

-The concept of double battles proving to be JUST too hard for most players. GAMEFREAK is mostly known for being over-analytic with the difficulty of their games. Spin-off or main series, if the user interface of difficulty is too high for new players that may NOT HAD PLAYED any video games in their life, it's set aside.

Yeah, I figured what you had listed are some reasons as to why they never continued the series. I mostly found it was because not many people played them. I mean, most of my friends who are Pokemon fans haven't heard of these games, or they heard about them but haven't played them.

No, but I've not seen SAO either so it probably wouldn't amuse me as much because I wouldn't get the jokes.

Bro keeps telling me to check out the FFVII thing they're doing. That's a game I played to death back in the day.

And Wes continues to look awesome. Surprisingly well drawn for characters in a Pokemon comic, I'm used to humans in Pokemon comics looking awkward and out of place.

why doesn't anyone have pupils
Reply
:iconsulfurbunny:
sulfurbunny Featured By Owner Nov 20, 2015
I did try out pupils at one time but with VF's fairly flat, simple shaded style, I found pupils to be an unnecessary and distracting detail. The important thing for visual communication is that the characters have sclera, which lets you see where they're looking. That helps a lot when you need to know a character's emotional state.

On that note, I've changed the canon design of Audino to give Jen's eyes sclera. That's because she's the protagonist, and it's especially important for us to be able to figure out what she's thinking. Note that Victini canonically has similar eyes to Audino, but I didn't alter V's eyes--it's better if the readers can't sympathize with her so easily, since she's the bad guy.

Ah, interesting. I must admit I do like your style. The whole idea with the pupils vs sclera is interesting compared to the traditional styles. Though thank you for telling me haha Sweating a little...
