Okay, so here's what I've learned so far:
Bad news for me is that people really don't want to donate to this thing. Though I did get the $50 I asked for as a baseline amount, that was in a single donation from one person (+1 ally slot), and obviously that's not a sustainable model for the future!
What I did notice is that quite a few people were interested in getting hold of the slots for VFQuest.
Now if people don't want to donate, that's a completely reasonable position to take--nobody likes giving something for nothing. But it does put me in a bind, because I can't justify putting in the time and work on it for free. I already do Victory Fire for free twice a week after all. Unfortunately, though I live as simply as I can, with the best will in the world I do need to eat and pay my minimal expenses (internet mainly; can't do without that if I'm posting comics!).
I have a few different options from here.
I can go to another site and look for commission work. This will inevitably cut into the time I have available for doing stuff here. VFQuest would definitely stop after this first run, and Victory Fire could end up going to once a week, once a fortnight, or in the worst case scenario simply have to end. This has the highest likelihood of a workable income for me but it would not be a fun situation for any of us here, obviously. I love making these comics for you guys and I'd hate to have to stop and spend my time drawing stuff I don't even like for $$$.
I can offer more VFQuest scenarios, for shorter (1-area or 1-room puzzle) runs, with the intent of completing each one within a week - thus I'm getting my little bit of necessary income solely off the paid slots rather than donations. The onus would be on the readers to purchase all slots reliably, or this absolutely wouldn't work. This one involves the most amount of work for me.
I can end VFQuest after this run and offer more traditional style comic, "YCH" and single image commissions here on DA. I'm dubious about the likelihood of success with this one. There's a lot of people doing it here, and most of them are undercharging spectacularly for their work and time, meaning it's very difficult to attract buyers if you don't do porn
??? Option 4, some sort of combination of above? I might need more than 24 hours in a day to keep up with that though…
What would you guys like me to do?

VF - Twelve Years!
~From the desk of EtherKyu, posted by Silval58!~ Twelve Years. While writing this I suddenly had a strange realization. VictoryFire is now officially older than its own protagonist, Jen! Or is Jen now twelve years older than she was when the comic started? Hmm.. In any case, this calls for a big celebration! So here, have some nice cake from Team Meanies (brought to you by the talented Paige (https://www.deviantart.com/rosesarehip), one of the artists on the Continuation Team!) But that’s not all. A lot has changed since the last anniversary post. So I want to use this occasion to inform fans of the comic ( that is you :] ) about the progress on the Fan Continuation of VictoryFire! First things first: we are still making slow, but steady progress! The Continuation Team achieved solid advancements in researching the material of the comic. But also the writing has seen good progress. Which means we have to begin to focus more on character refs and the general visual art
Eleventh Anniversary!
(Posted by Silval58) ~~written by EtherKyu, lead moderator of the VF Discord Server~~ Yesterday marked Victory Fires eleventh anniversary! Time seems to fly, the 10th one feels like it wasn't that long ago, right? And that also means it has been 4 years now since the comic went into hiatus. That’s why we want to use this occasion to lift the mood a little bit :) As many of you might be aware, the community is working on a fan continuation of VF. Last year we started sharing a first glimpse into the behind the scenes, during our VFAutumn event. And today we want to share a little bit more about that with the rest of the community! Thanks to Projekurai, work on the character references for the comics continuation has progressed! The refs can also be seen in detail here: Projekurai's Stash But that’s not all! Thanks to the work of Snepril and the help of the admins over at lakevalor.net, an important artefact of VFs history has been restored! An interview between her

10 Years of Victory Fire
(Posted by Silval58) ~~This wonderful post was written by our good friend Etherkyu, lead moderator for the VictoryFire Discord! They have been working tirelessly with the team to create an ending for the comic and hosts the current VFCraft minecraft server. Thank you so much for this tribute! ~~ On the 3rd of March 2012, the first page of a Pokemon Fancomic got posted here by two best friends. Today we know that this page would become the start of a long journey. A journey of unforseen events and twists. Some of them tragic. But against all odds, it became what would make this story unique. It became the story of Victory Fire. Your story. Our story. So lets use the occasion to take a step back. Let us look into what happened since that first page got posted ten years ago. It's early 2012. Pokemon Black and White are the newest Pokemon mainline games. The Wii is Nintendos current console. The Nintendo 3DS got released just a year ago. And Grumpy Cat (RIP) will be born in about 1

What are your guys doing now for income? Plus how much longer are you doing the trial run, because if it is going to end soon, then wait until the end to count the money you made in donations, and set up a poll to see what people think is going to be the best choice.
